There’s no doubting that Nashville is one of the smartest cities in the United States. We have exceptional universities and private academies for all ages. Vanderbilt might be christened “the Harvard of the South,” but Montgomery Bell Academy is the preparatory school that gets your student to either of those institutions.
Montgomery Bell Academy understands what it takes to make an all-American success story. They have over 147 years of experience preparing young men through the grades of 7-12th in academics, athletics, and fine arts.
A lot of the time, you’ll hear of students who are unable to balance their time correctly once they get to university. Montgomery Bell Academy graduates never undergo this problem, because at an early age they learn how to balance their studies and extracurricular activities. Their education is rigorous, and their instructors are invested in supporting their learning and growth as independent leaders.
Why All Boys?
MBA utilizes a single-gender environment to promote comradery, competition, and learning. In an all-boys setting, they can learn without the common social disruptions that occur in a boy’s adolescence. This atmosphere is conducive to camaraderie, as students are able to work and compete together for a common purpose, to become fully developed gentlemen, scholars, and athletes.
At the same time, MBA understands that boys should engage with girls in other settings. This is why they offer co-ed book clubs, art shows, service projects, and athletic competitions. Boys are also encouraged to take coeducational trips to discover colleges, outdoor recreation, and foreign countries, in which they can build authentic friendships outside of their preparatory school.
The Basis of Success
The instructors at Montgomery Bell Academy (MBA) understand that “boys will be boys,” and they use this paradigm to conduct learning. They recognize that boys are responsive to courage, adventure, risk-taking, honor, and a sense of duty, so they use these themes to promote their growth. The curriculum at MBA is designed in a manner that makes students well-rounded, so they’re comfortable with the arts and hard sciences. They teach in a way that will stir as much curiosity in poetry as physics.
Through ample research and experience, MBA understands that boys have a distinct learning style. Ample research shows that men and women have physical differences in the way their brains function, especially in preparatory tasks like taking the SAT. The first step to tailoring to either gender is by understanding these differences. MBA has over 175 years of experience perfecting their ability to modify their instructions to better support the growth of young men.
Montgomery Bell Academy has proof of their success. In fact, 90% of their students scored a 3 or more on their Advanced Placement exams. In Tennessee, MBA has the highest percentage of students with National Merit recognition. They have two national championships in Debate. They also have national recognition in artwork, as well as competitive sports. Graduates from MBA give back by becoming leaders on a local, state, national, and international levels.
At MBA, they’re concerned about the holistic growth of the student. So your student can thrive as an athlete, artist, and scientist. There’s no rule saying that the football linebacker can’t also be a 4.0 student who plays the clarinet. This balance in academics, athletics, and artistic endeavors is what sets MBA apart from other preparatory schools. They challenge students to step outside of their comfort zones to become well-rounded men.
