Dental Bridges and Crowns
What is a Dental Crown?
A dental crown is a cap or covering that can be placed over a damaged tooth to restore its shape and function and to protect it from further damage. Dental crowns can be made with amalgam materials or tooth colored materials.
At our office, we use both porcelain fused to metal and metal free, tooth-colored crowns made with a high quality, beautiful porcelain. Using porcelain, we can create and match your crown to your natural teeth’s shape and color.
Depending on the individual situation, some crowns are made by our lab, while some crowns will be made in house with our CEREC® 3D CAD-CAM system which allows us the capability to create your crown while you wait, typically less than an hour.
CEREC® Porcelain Restorations
CEREC® gets its name from CEramic REConstruction and is a brand name of an in office imaging and crown and onlay system made by the Sirona Corporation. It is a breakthrough in dentistry because it allows dentists in most cases to restore your tooth with a porcelain restoration “in about an hour!” With a CEREC restorations there is no temporary to wear and no second dental visit.
There is a difference between and an onlay and a crown. An onlay usually replaces a filling and covers one or more of the cusps of the tooth whereas a crown covers the entire biting surface. Crowns and onlays restore tooth function, address esthetic needs and can improve the overall health of your mouth.
We use the CEREC® 3D system in our office. It mills crowns and onlays from feldspathic porcelain blocks (Vitablocs MarkII) and from leucite-reinforced porcelain blocks (Empress® CAD). The blocks come in an assortment of sizes and shapes, colors and translucency to match natural tooth enamel. This allows us to make metal free restorations that combine the esthetics of enamel with strength of a natural tooth.
We have many satisfied patients! In fact, over 15 million CEREC® restorations have been placed worldwide.

A dental bridge is a restorative dentistry appliance that uses a series of dental crowns to fill in a gap left by a missing tooth. For patients who are missing teeth, a dental bridge can restore the appearance and functionality of their smile. Dental bridge patients can eat, smile, laugh, and speak clearly again without any noticeable gaps in their mouth. When you come into our office for a dental bridge to replace a missing tooth, we will give you care instructions that will keep your bridge lasting and healthy.
